Musique

Under Musique on my page, there are a ton of album covers. I intend to blog about all the artists under there. This page will have samples of music, my thoughts on the music and all that. As I blog about them I’ll add them here.

 Artist: Brand New

Album: The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me

Best Song: Jesus Christ Click to listen.

Why I like it: Brand New is one of my favorite bands, and this album is so different from thier previous work. You need to listen to it to really get it, but it’s one of those albums where every song can be your favorite song.

 Artist: Brand New

Album: Deja Entendu

Best Song: Play Crack The Sky Click to listen.

Why I like it: I chose Play Crack as the best, but it’s hard to really select a ‘best’ from this album. This album produced 2 popular singles (The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows, and Sic Transit Gloria.. Glory Fades) and made them the headliners they are now. I’ve had this CD sitting in my house since I was in the 9th grade, it’s just one of the few albums I can listen to and never get sick of hearing.

 Artist: The Trews

Album: House Of Ill Fame

Best Song: Not Ready To Go click to listen

Why I like it: The best album The Trews out out, by far, and almost every song plays on my iPod nonstop. Not Ready To Go is up as the best simply because it was big in Canada for a while, but also, it’s the first tune I heard from these guys and it’s the reason I am a fan.

 Artist: Regina Spektor

Album: Begin To Hope

Best Song: On The Radio Listen to Regina Spektor – On The Radio

Why I like it: I just got into Regina Spektor, her stuff is so varied, no two songs are the same, and they don’t fit into any conventional mold. She has a jazzy soft voice and the things she sings about can be a lot darker than her voice suggests.

 Artist: Locksley

Album: Don’t Make Me Wait

Best Song: For You (Part II)

Why I like it: I was lucky enough to stumble across this band at the House Of Blues. I was pretty amazed with thier style, showmanship and sound. Their sound is very much influenced by the Beatles, and it’s fairly obvious when you listen to them. They even covered a Beatles tune at the show. Every day I think a different song on the album is my favorite.

 Artist: The Trews

Album: Den Of Thieves

Best Song: Yearning Listen to The Trews – Yearning

Why I like it: I’m just really into the Trews right now, it isn’t my favorite album of thiers, but I really really like ‘Yearning’ and ‘Makin Sunshine’.

 Artist: Mae

Album: The Everglow

Best Song: Ready And Waiting To Fall Listen to Mae – Ready And Waiting To Fall

Why I like it: The whole feel of the album is exatly what I like in music. It has soft moments and of course the high adrenaline upbeat moments. I’m also a big fan of the piano, and this album has some sweet piano. :)

 Artist: The Myriad

Album: With Arrows With Poise

Best Song: A Clean Shot click to listen

Why I like it: It isn’t released until next month, but the end of “Prelude To Arrows” has a sneak peak at the new album, and all of it sounds great. Plus they played a one or two songs from the new album at the Hard Rock Live show.

Artist: The Premiums

Album: Recognizer!

Best Song: White Lightning Listen to The Premiums – White Lightning

Why I like it: It’s just pure rock&roll. Canadian music for some reason has such a different “uncommercial” feel as opposed to most american ‘rock’ bands.

 Artist: The Meligrove Band

Album: Let It Grow

Best Song: Check Your Messages

Why I like it: Another Canadian band that has a great sound. It’s kind of heppy mellow rock? I can’t even describe thier sound.

 Artist: The City Drive

Album: Always Moving Never Stopping

Best Song: Defeated

Why I like it: TCD has been one of my favorite bands since 2004, a Canadian front man may be part of why thier sound is so different from most american acts. The album was recorded when my buddy Scott Waldman was still thier bassist. So that holds a special place in my heart as well. Not to mention it’s just a great album.

 Artist: Matchbox Twenty

Album: More Than You Think You Are

Best Song: Hand Me Down

Why I like it: I don’t feel I need to explain the appeal of MB20, me and Alysia agree this is thier best album, it’s .. it just is.

Artist: The Myriad

Album: You Can’t Trust A Ladder

Best Song: Tethered Listen to The Myriad – Tethered

Why I like it: There’s a reason they won the Dew Circuit Breakout Band. Go listen to this album.

 Artist: Brand New

Album: Your Favorite Weapon

Best Song: Seventy Times 7 Listen to Brand New – Seventy Times 7

Why I like it: Old school Brand Nizzle, it’s hard to dislike it, it was edgier, louder, and angrier than thier new stuff, but it still embodies everything Brand New is. Not to mention it birthed “I know that you’re a sucker for anything acoustic”. Soco Ameretto Lime is Deanna, Kelly and I’s song. It bordered the edge of our senior page, and listening to it with them, crammed between CD shelves at Park Ave CD’s, watching Jesse strum his guitar was probably the closest to a perfect moment I have ever experienced.

 Artist: Dashboard Confessional

Album: The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most

Best Song: The Best Deceptions

Why I like it: Dashboard Confessional at thier best. Thier newer stuff was too soft and mainstream for my taste, this is the Dashboard I love. Chris is one of the best at mixing soft and sweet with harsh and angry in his music.

 Artist: Flashlight Brown

Album: My Degeneration

Best Song: A Freak

Why I like it: FLB was literally the first band I got to see live, I’m so blessed I did too, since it is the one and only time they have ever played in Florida, and now they stay in Canada. They are a high energy punk-rock band, Matt’s vocals harsh, and almost spoken at times, Fil’s back ups are almost like sandpaper, but in a good way. Thier songs are all punk-rock and mostly up tempo, but if you listen to the lyrics, most are pretty humourous.

 Artist: Matchbox Twenty

Album: Yourself Or Someone Like You

Best Song: Hang

Why I Like It: The album is full of amazing songs. I sleected ‘Hang’ as the best because, not too long ago I was able to see them in concert again, and hearing Kyle sing the chorus, as opposed to Rob, I remember the beauty and power in the song, and thus the whole appeal of the band.

 Artist: The Myriad

Album: Prelude To Arrows

Best Song: Don’t Let Them See You

Why I like it: it;s a short CD, 5 songs and then a track previewing the upcoming album ‘With Arrows With Poise’, but it’s a great disc, and the preview for the new album makes the anticipation for it’s release that much greater.

 Artist: Matchbox twenty

Album: Mad Season

Best Song: Crutch Listen to Matchbox 20 – Crutch

Why I like it: They don’t play many songs from this album at shows anymore, but I really love the mix of sounds they have here, from the up-tempo ‘Stop’ to the eerie slow You Won’t Be Mine, to the perfect 90’s song, Black & White People, the album covers a lot of ground. Plus, rest Stop was written about Rob hitchhiking up through Florida. It’s always a great reminder of his roots here in central Florida.

 Artist: Dashboard Confessional

Album: A Mark. A Mission. A Brand. A Scar.

Best Song: If You Can’t Leave it Be, Might As Well Make It Bleed

Why I like it: Another of DBC’s good albums. It’s different, thier sound seems to change with each album, but this is album’s only really mainstream song was ‘Hands Down’, so that’s working in its favor. (I’m not a huge fan of the mainstream)

 Artist: The Meligrove Band

Album: Planets Conspire

Best Song: Ages and Stages Listen to The Meligrove Band – Ages And Stages

Why I like it: They have a very 70’s sound on this album, the happy hippie stuff. It’s weird that I like it, because in general I hate 70’s music. But this just has that feel, in a good way.

 Artist: Flashlight Brown

Album: Blue

Best Song: Sicker

Why I like it: FINALLY! It took year for them to release a new album, when it came out it was so refreshing to hear new music from them. And of course, it was still the same great sound, unique and angry.

 Artist: Between The Trees

Album: The Story and the Song

Best Song: She Is Listen to Between The Trees – She Is…

Why I like it: I really don’t listen to them a great deal, but I will tell you I really did enjoy the show I went to. My friend wanted to go so I tagged along, and I ended up really liking thier set. The lead singer had gone to my high school so I actually had low hopes, but they really did a great job. Thier sound kind of reminds me of Copeland or Mae, which is a good thing. And I gotta say, hearing “My mom, is my superhero, my mom is my world” in a song is just great. I love seeing good Christian guys rock out.

Artist: Dashboard Confessional

Album: The Swiss Army Romance

Best Song: Shirts and Gloves

Why I like it: It’s soft, and relatively smooth througout. Screaming Infidelities opens the album, and obviously that’s a favcorite for a lot of people. It’s a good album, not thier best, but not thier worst either.

Artist: Matchbox Twenty

Album: Exile On Mainstream

Best Song: All Your Reasons Listen to Matchbox Twenty – All your reasons

Why I like it: It was a long time coming, and they finally came out with new music. ‘All Your Reasons’ is the “happiest ‘I hate you’ song ever” according to Rob Thomas, and the news songs mixed with old on the album make it something no one should overlook. Kudos to Matchbox for coming back and not missing a beat (except the lack of Adam).
