Students, and good music.

November 14, 2008

School budgets suck. My hours at the school got cut to 2 hours a week only on Wednesdays. So that obviously sucks, 1 because I make less money now, and 2 because I don’t get to be with my students much anymore.

When i left Wednesday, one of my kids Colin, started flipping out saying “for our sanity, you can’t leave! You are the only one that can get Keaton to listen even a little bit and he’s better when your here, don’t goooo! You caaaaan’t” It was hilarious, and sad, and flattering at the same time. See, Keaton is a bit of a terror sometimes. But, I love a challenge so I deal with him a lot, it’s been my goal since day one to break through with him. I think I have, so that’s awesome, and the fact that the other kids see that too is super cool. But, also sad since I can’t be there everyday anymore. The other cool thing is the kids appreciate me a lot more now, and I have a lot less issues with misbeahvior because it’s like.. a treat when I’m there. So it kind of rocks, but I miss them all.

Oh, and coolest thing ever, was Hunter telling me that he really wants to go to Powerhouse, and he reminds his mom every Saturday to take him to Powerhouse at C3 in the Regal Cinemas in Waterford(yeah, all of that, it was hilariously accurate) on Sunday, but, as he put it “Sunday morning at 10:30 rolls around and I’m at home and I’m mad!” It’s awesome that he wants to come so bad. His bff Nate Bledsoe and I have told him a little about it and he really wants to check it out. So that’s really awesome. :)

Okay, now on to my other passion, music. For starters, I’m seriously missing music from a performance standpoint, I love listening and experieniencing music, but peforming and learning music is a whol other experience and I’m really aching for it. I;ve been playing the piano a little to try to fill that, but Candlelight is coming up fast and I’m going to be aching to be there all through December. :( Oh well. Piano will have to do for now :)

Another thing I love is finding new music that I can get excited about. That happened last week. Last friday, same day I found out I’d only be at the school once a week, me and Tommy had the kids in the computer lab. We ended up watching some videos of bands Tommy is into, and I gotta say I was really impressed with ‘Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin’. They remind me a little of The Meligrove Band, and I am pretty addicted to some of thier stuff right now. It falls in perfectly with some Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Locksley and Copeland.

Here’s ‘Modern Mystery’, there isn’t any actual video.. there is a music video but it’s with an old recording and I like the new one better, it’s better quality.

My personal favorites by them right now are:
Dead Right
Modern Mystery
House Fire
Half-Awake
Glue Girls
Think I Wanna Die

So I recommend checking them out. www.myspace.com/boris
