You Are God

October 27, 2008

You’re closer than our troubles
More present than any danger
More grand than gold and silver
You are God, You are God

You’re the joy of man’s desire
You are Father, satisfier
We are stunned with wide-eyed wonder
You are God, You are God

You fill our hearts with love and faith
You fight for us, You make us brave
You are God, You are God.
You walk with us, You lead us on
Faith, hope and love wakes up with dawn
You are God, You are God

Life flows from God, it flows from God

This song has been playing through my head for about 2 weeks. I love it, and the lyrics are exactly what I’ve needed to be singing. God is closer than our troubles, and I’ve been reminding myself of that. God is so good and He’s always there, everything I ever need I find in God, through Christ my life is made worth something. That’s all I need to know to keep moving forward. God has a plan and it’s bigger than I’ll ever know.

My students..

October 24, 2008

I spend basically all my time with kids now. Sundays I work in powerhouse, I act for all of the K-5 and teach the 4th and 5th graders. Monday through Friday I work at Avalon Elementary in extended day with the 5th graders, 4th too, but the 5th graders are my actual students. Most Wednesday nights I work in Crave with the middle and high school kids. And finally, every other sunday night I spend babysitting for the adult community group.

So, basically everything revolves around kids now, all my stories are about my students, and they all have these incredible personalities, all of them (yes all, even Keaton!) have good qulities about them and all of them can make me smile like nothing else. So, now I’m writing a list of things that kids have said and done lately that have made me happy.

+ Andrew bringing his Powerhouse work back, signed and completed.

+The look Maddie gave me when Rachel wouldnt share her scissors in the new classroom.

+Jason calming down and letting me help him with his homework.

+Nate coming to the cafeteria every day to say hi and give me a hug.

+Jason running in yelling “Ms, Katie! Guess what? Remember those sentences you helped me with? I got a hundred and my teacher said they were excellent sentences!”

+Every drawing my kids have given me, they are all up on my bulletin bard. :)

+Hearing the powerhouse kids laughing when me and Don are up on stage.

+Keaton calling me Bob, because he doesn’t know me very well yet, and I should give it a week for him to call me my real name. Hilarious. (He’s calling me Ms.Katie now!)

+My 5th grade boys finding out who was putting the backpacks in the toilet. My little sleuths kick butt.

+Rachel saying that she likes Ms.Katie better than Ms.Kayleigh :-P

+The way Alex always twirls around in her seat and waves when she sees me.

+Seeing Sarah throw a football like a pro. And Jason teaching me how to throw one properly.

+Giving Hunter a history quiz and 5 more boys asking to be quizzed.

+Keaton finally trusting me as a teacher, and throwing the football around with me.

+The kids asking if I remember thier nicknames… Polly Pocket, Mojo, Coony, The Wave, Little One, C Note, etc.

+Chrissys shower becoming the “tornado room” when the kids are over.

+The girls always showing me thier cheerleading skills.

+Hunter proclaiming he really really wants to come to Powerhouse with Nate soon.

+Watching football highlights in the computer lab with Keaton and Jason.

+Being picked first in sports when playing with 5th graders.. it doesn’t happen with people my own age so that is awesome.

+And my absolute favorite thing, is that I know my kids well enough now to know how to have fun, help them with school work, and keep them in line. Each one is totally different, some more difficult than others, but all different, and I can officially say I understand how to handle all of them now.

I love my students at Avalon like crazy, and I’m going to be way bummed when the year is over and they head off to middle school. But, they are all great kids and I know they will go on to be awesome in life. I’m proud of them all and I can’t wait to see them again on Monday. Jason is camping for the last time as a Cub Scout this weekend so I know he will have tons to tell me. :)

A Lot Can Change in a Year

October 10, 2008

I find myself saying “woah it’s been a year already??” a lot lately. A year ago I was in Charlotte with Kristen in Chase, goofing off at the dirt track and eating ridiculous fried food talking about how Chase would celebrate when he finally won a race. Still hasn’t by the way. Today, I’m watching the race on TV, as opposed to from the Red Bull Energy Station, watching Chase crash his car. Last year he didn’t even get to race in this event. This year he does but wrecks early. Kind of no where near as awesome as a year ago, but I digress. :)

About a year ago, something happened that ended up causing me and my friends to  fall away from each other.

About 3 weeks ago me and those friends all reunited for dinner and had a blast, and let everything in the past go.

Last October I went to a Hanson concert and saw this band Locksley, and met some nice guys named Mark and James.

Nowadays Mark comes to my church off and on and Kelly likes to scare James on a regular basis. Locksley is still awesome, but missing thier cools bassist Aaron.

About a year ago Scott was starting to play shows in LA and NYC with his new band. Now he just finished his first full length album.

A year ago I had a few friends I was tight with: Kelly, Michael, Genesis, Daniel and BG.

Today I have too many to list.

A year ago I was intimidated by the idea of the college community group at church.

Today it meets at my house and is the highlight of my week.

A year ago I loved my life.

Today I love my life.

Some things change, and some things never do.

So here is to changes, and rolling with them, because God is in control, and he knows what he’s doing. In a year, I have no clue what changes will come my way, but I know I will still have God, and still love my life.

(Though hopefully my friends will all still be there, because I especially love the ones I’ve made this past year.) hmm.. maybe my next blog will be an ode to my many new friends
