My Musique Artist #7: Regina Spektor
April 25, 2008I haven’t written a music blog in a really long time. I was at Forever 21 today and ‘On The Radio’ by Regina Spektor came on, it made me want to write about her.
I first listened to her music riding around Orlando with Robin and Kelly. Listening to them over and over for days, I got pretty addicted. The cool thing about her music, is that if you don’t pay attention you would think the songs are sweet upbeat tunes, when they really aren’t.
I’m a big fan of the piano, and she uses it a lot. I have a lot of her sheet music around, I play it from time to time. It’s all so different, Some soft and sweet sounding, others hard and strong. Without her voice behind it you wouldn’t think it’s the same artist. I hate when someone puts out an album with the same song 12 times. She doesn’t do that. It’s almost ridiculous how much it changes song to song. ‘That Time’ is almost spoken at times and kinda funny. ‘Consequence of Sounds’ is basically a rap with some vocal exercises thrown in there, ‘Fidelty’ is poppy and radio-friendly (probably why it’s a single), ‘Apres Moi’ is.. hard to describe, darker. It all changes so much, it’s refreshing to listen to an artist and never get bored.
Check out this video, it’s ‘Fidelty’.
