SYTYCD

April 27, 2008

We talked a lot about TV shows today at lunch. Probably the best one ever is So You Think You Can Dance.

It’s coming back on the air soon, and I’m pretty amped up because last season was amazing, and now I’ve found 2 girls that love it just as much as I do. Chrissy and Karen, these 2 girls that have been coming to community group are big fans of it, and thank goodness because this show requires talking about it for hours on end after performances.

Not to mention knowing someone who cares I met Kameron Bink randomly in the mall.

Here’s a clip from the second season. Occasionally on the show, dances make you feel something, or just impress the crap out of you. This did both.

My Musique Artist #7: Regina Spektor

April 25, 2008

I haven’t written a music blog in a really long time. I was at Forever 21 today and ‘On The Radio’ by Regina Spektor came on, it made me want to write about her.

I first listened to her music riding around Orlando with Robin and Kelly. Listening to them over and over for days, I got pretty addicted. The cool thing about her music, is that if you don’t pay attention you would think the songs are sweet upbeat tunes, when they really aren’t.

I’m a big fan of the piano, and she uses it a lot. I have a lot of her sheet music around, I play it from time to time. It’s all so different, Some soft and sweet sounding, others hard and strong. Without her voice behind it you wouldn’t think it’s the same artist. I hate when someone puts out an album with the same song 12 times. She doesn’t do that. It’s almost ridiculous how much it changes song to song. ‘That Time’ is almost spoken at times and kinda funny. ‘Consequence of Sounds’ is basically a rap with some vocal exercises thrown in there, ‘Fidelty’ is poppy and radio-friendly (probably why it’s a single), ‘Apres Moi’ is.. hard to describe, darker. It all changes so much, it’s refreshing to listen to an artist and never get bored.

Check out this video, it’s ‘Fidelty’.

The Interesting Thing About Working At LifeWay..

April 23, 2008

Is the people that come in day to day. We get a lot of the Channel 9 news team. That’s pretty cool. A lot of familar faces for a ton of different reasons.

Today there was a familar face in there when I walked in, she was a member of Parkway, before the C3 transition, she goes to Aloma now. She was talking to Colin at POS, I went and clocked in, when I got to POS she was still there, and obviously talking about C3. She kept saying things I found bizarre and a bit outlandish, like how the church was “destroyed”. What?

She had a lot of opinions about the church. She said she had friends that still went there, and they say that its great and that a lot of new people come in all the time. And she acted like that was a bad thing. She said that was because “something about it appealed to them”. EXACTLY. What the heck is wrong about that? I totally didn’t get her argument against C3, she was obviously just bitter about losing “her” church. People tend to forget the church doesn’t belong to them.

She didn’t know I went there, and as much as I wanted to mention I haven’t seen her there since the transition, so she has nothing to base all this on, I didn’t. I really just wanted to get on with my day, and all it would have done was caused some sort of awkward argument, her opinion wasn’t going to change so I didn’t want to waste my time.

Colin, the guy she was talking to, goes to Aloma. I went there for a few weeks, kind of this awkward time when I had no say in it. My parents left during the Parkway-C3 transition for Aloma like a lot of others, and I was forced along with them because I didn’t have a car. As soon as I got my own I went back to C3. It was only a few weeks but I got to see Aloma and how they function. I have no issue with it, it’s a good church, everyone seems pretty nice and Pastor Anthony was pretty cool. Just not my thing, I got bored a lot there and there wasn’t any sense of connection with anyone. It’s a lot more traditional, which is fine. I just prefer C3, and I like that we are more for seeking the lost then accomadating church people.

Thats what bothered me most about this womans complaints. She acted like C3 was a horrible place, like it wasn’t good enough. Sorry, but if you have a problem with a church reaching out to the community to spread the love of Christ, then you need to re-evaluate where you are as a Christian.

Not to mention it was all based on opinion. She has not been to C3 since the transition, so where is it coming from? All this anger towards C3? It’s just bitterness about not getting her way. It bothered me because it sounded a lot like my dad. My dad has some sort of beef with C3 and it comes up at random moments, he always makes snarky little comments. With my dad I definitly defend C3 a lot more than I would with some customer. It bothers me to no end because he has never been to C3, only Parkway.

I’m so passionate about C3, I think it’s such an amazing thing to be a part of, and I’ve never felt more in tune with God’s plan for my life then I have right now, as I’m getting more and more involved there. I see people coming to church that would normally be looked down on at other churches, people feel comfortable coming to C3, and traditional church people are freaked out by that.

I’m glad I’m not like them.

I’m proud to be at C3, and I love everyone there. I love everyone everywhere, but I have a special love for my C3 people :) .

Speaking of which, one of those C3 people turned 18 today.

Happy birthday to Kayleigh, she is one of the most awesome girls I know. :)

Gotta love Facebook.

April 21, 2008

Haha, okay. So. In my last post, I wished my friend Jeremy luck.

Well, that was because tonight he was going to ask out Amber. So, anyway, via Facebook, it was pretty easy to figure out that it went well, and so now we have a new couple on our hands.

So, lucky for me, I got to hear the story of how he asked her, which was probably the sweetest thing ever.

Apparently, when they got off work, they we’re walking out to go home, and he points at her car and makes a big deal saying “who would do that??” so, amber thinks her car is messed up, and then she sees that there are flowers on her seat. He took her hands and gave her the whole speech about how wonderful she is, and asked her out. She said yes obviously, and it was all sweet and mushy and adorable.

Basically, it’s extremely cute, and I’m happy for them, they are 2 of the greatest people I know and they are going to be ridiculously good to each other.

Work should be more interesting from now on :)

Congrats to Amber and Jeremy. Hooray for my friends!!

Seriously?

April 21, 2008

I am really getting annoyed with the level of crime in my neighborhood. I was on my way back from work, and I take Colonial to Old Cheney, to get home, old cheney is basically the entrance to my neighborhood. So, I’m getting up there and I see a cop car parked, with his lights on at old cheney on the opposite side of 50. Figured he pulled someone over, didn’t see any car, but whatever. Then I saw another on the side I’m on.. and another. all with thier lights on, and the cops standing beside thier doors. As I’m driving past Tucker, a Channel 9 van literally about plowed into my driver side door (but I forgive them because a lot of them shop at LifeWay), I figure, okay, something must have happened then. Another cop car, same deal, lights on, cop outside the vehicle, on Old Cheney, at Ron’s. (its a car place). so I turned on 9 when i got home, apparently someone got stabbed in a house on Tucker. Nice.

I’m over this stuff.

Really.

I want to move.

I want to move regardless, but I especially want to move given the crime situation.

I don’t think you have any idea.. I mean, I know it’s not the projects or anything, but there are always search helicopters, cops, it gets intense. Ever heard of reverse 911? Not many of my friends have. I have. We get those a lot. I’m used to it all, and I never get freaked out, but it just isn’t cool. In reality I wish people were’nt stabbing other people in the first place. But living around it is just.. worse somehow. I can’t ignore that stuff when it interferes with my daily life.

Okay. I just needed to rant about that for a second.

I am going to start working as a leader with Crave now I guess. It was pretty cool last night, I definitely want to be involved, and I’m trying to work it out to be a camp counselor this year. I’m going to see about PowerHouse this weekend too.

And as a last little note: Good luck to Jeremy tonight. My LifeWay people know what I’m talking about. :)

The Friendly Athiest

April 14, 2008

The guy that wrote ‘I Sold My Soul On EBay’ has a blog thing, friendlyathiest.com

he put 3 or 4 snippets from reviews on his blog, he used part of my blog, which was weird.

It was cool I admit, to have someone that wrote a book that I read, reading what I had to say about his book. That was a mouth full. But again he kind of did the typical stuff that bothered me about his book.

He definitely used my most positive words, which was fine, they we’re my words and I totally stand by them, but they we’re surrounded by a lot of critiques. He put 1 of those critiques in there. Which apparently made him want to scream (okay dude, I’m an 18 year old girl with a blog, get over it). It was my weakest critique.. just about him hatin’ on Kirk Cameron, it bugged me reading it because I like Kirk.

Big deal.

I wrote about a lot of other stuff in that book.. why highlight that I like Kirk and he doesn’t? Probably to make me look stupid, which worked because the comments from readers included calling me “a dingbat”.

Nice.

Honestly.. I’m getting very sick right now, my head is killing me and I can barely speak. I’m not in the mood to be bothered by a blogger. I have to work tomorrow, so this kind of sucks, definitely never going to get better.

Also, Rita Cox’s mom died today at 2.

Say prayers for the family.

I feel like death, I’m going to sleep.

Awww

April 2, 2008

Okay, so I will willingly admit to being a fan of the Jonas Brothers. To be honest, I’m not 100% sure why, but I just like them. I’ve seen them live twice, just last friday actually. They kind of stink live to be honest, Nick and Kevin can play insturments well, but their voices are just awkward. Anyway, I still like them.

So, my friend Larrissa showed me this video and I just had to put it up here because it’s ridiculously sweet. It’s from when Kevin as 7, and Joe was 5. So, they are at a Christian conference thing, thier dad is a pastor, and he is the guy speaking. Then this childrens choir sings, with kevin kind of leading it. Joe is in there too, in the choir. It’s just a very sweet video and it’s a cute song that Papa Jonas wrote.
